I don't think it's a secret that in home is my favorite place to photograph families. Documenting families right where they already feel most at ease results in incredibly cozy, warm, and heartstring pulling images. This Boise in-home family photoshoot was a perfect example of why these sessions are such a great fit for families with young children, shy kids, or anyone who wants photos that feel honest and unforced.

If your child tends to warm up slowly, you’re not alone — and that’s exactly why I love in-home sessions. Being photographed in a familiar space helps kids relax faster. They know where they are and they're comfortable there, even when meeting someone new (enter me!).

When I photograph families in their homes, my approach is simple: slow down and make space for real connection.

I’ll guide you into good light, offer gentle prompts if needed, and then step back. I’m not there to stage your life, I’m there to document it. That means breaks for snacks, time for cuddles, and room for kids to be exactly who they are that day.

You don’t need a perfectly clean house or matching outfits. You just need to show up as yourselves. Your home already tells part of your story, and years from now, these images will hold so much more than how everyone looked — they’ll hold how this season felt.

During this session, I followed your kids’ lead. There was no expectation for them to look at the camera or “behave” a certain way. The real moments will naturally unfold and those are always the ones families love most later on.

As a Boise family photographer, I believe photo sessions should feel supportive, not stressful. In-home sessions are especially wonderful for families who want a relaxed experience and images that feel warm, natural, and deeply personal.

This session was full of quiet moments, playful energy, and genuine connection — the kind that can’t be rushed or recreated. It’s always an honor to step into a family’s home and preserve a small piece of their everyday life.
